About your kid’s dentist
Dr. Barnes's journey into dentistry is a tale of rediscovery and passion, rooted in her childhood in Olathe, Kansas. The daughter of a pediatric dentist, she spent her summers immersed in the dental office. Initially drawn towards dreams of pursuing medical science or interior design, it wasn’t until her college years that she discovered the captivating allure of dentistry's distinctive blend of science and art.
After graduating with honors from Southern Methodist University, Dr. Barnes pursued her dental and public health education at the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health. Her commitment to specialized pediatric care led her to the University of Tennessee, where she completed her residency and earned a Master of Dental Science. Her board certification by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and advanced training in infant frenectomies, laser dentistry, and esthetic restoration options like zirconia crowns highlight her dedication to providing comprehensive, gentle care.
Driven by a vision to create a practice that embodies excellence, compassion, and innovation, Dr. Barnes founded Songbird Pediatric Dentistry. She sought to establish a space where patient care is paramount, and every family feels genuinely welcomed and valued. Recognizing a need in Fairview, she created the first pediatric dentistry practice in the area, with a non-corporate, mom-run approach to dental care.
At the heart of Dr. Barnes's practice is a mission to be known as an honest, quality-focused pediatric dentist who creates a positive, fun, and supportive environment for children and their families. She is passionate about offering unique services, including comprehensive care for children with special needs, particularly those on the autism spectrum and infants struggling with nursing due to lip and tongue-ties. Her holistic approach focuses not just on treating dental ailments but on understanding their causes and preventing future issues.
Outside the office, Dr. Barnes is a wife and devoted mother to two toddlers and enjoys baking gluten-free treats, antique shopping, staying active, and exploring nature. Her personal experiences, both as a parent and as a professional, deeply influence her approach to pediatric dentistry.
Continuing Education is so important to us, because we want to provide the best care possible with the most up -to-date preventative, diagnostic and treatment methods.
